From a Govardhan pujari family, under her own name
Sandhya Kaushik was born into a family of Kaushik pujaris at Govardhan — the hill in the Braj region of Mathura that, in the older telling, Krishna lifted to shelter his people from a storm. She took her Master of Fine Arts at Lalit Kala Sansthan, Agra, then painted for years in a Faridabad studio whose impressionist acrylics shipped, unsigned, to Dubai, London, Singapore and New York.
In 2024 she signed her first canvas under her own mark — Devanagari and Latin set together — and decided the next painting would leave the studio in her name. She paints the country her family has stewarded, and a few places beyond, with palette knives, never brushes.
