Commissions
From conversation to easel
How does a commission begin?
A WhatsApp or an inquiry form. The studio replies within a day, Monday to Saturday. The first conversation is free, with no obligation. Once you choose a composition and size and place the order, the painting is begun.
How long does a commission take?
Catalogue compositions are handmade after you order and delivered in 12 to 18 days. A commission at a size that is not listed is timed with you before you pay.
Can I commission a painting from a photograph?
Yes, gladly. Share the photograph with Sandhya. The painting will not be a copy of the photograph; it will be an interpretation in Sandhya's hand.
Can a composition be painted at a specific size?
Every composition is offered in several sizes, listed on its product page; the size guide draws each one to scale. For a size that is not listed, WhatsApp the studio and it is timed and priced with you before you pay.
Can I cancel an order?
Yes, free of charge, within 24 hours of ordering or at any time before painting begins. Once painting has begun the work is one of one and cannot be cancelled. See the Cancellation and Refund Policy.
Materials & framing
What the painting is made of
What materials does Sandhya use?
Every painting is hand-painted on canvas, largely with a palette knife in thick impasto. The paint used varies with the piece; if it matters to you, ask the studio about a particular composition before you order.
What are the framing options?
Four finishes, chosen when you order: rolled (on the roll, sent in a tube), stretched on a wooden frame, or a floater frame in black or in gold. The price of each finish is shown on the product page.
Is the painting varnished?
Yes. Every painting is finished with an artist-grade Liquitex varnish that seals the paint against dust and moisture, helps guard it against fading, and brings out the depth of colour.
Does it arrive ready to hang?
Yes, for the stretched and framed finishes: the painting arrives with the hanger already fitted and the hanging hardware included, so it goes straight onto the wall. The Rolled finish travels in a tube, to be stretched or framed locally.
Can I have a painting unstretched, on the roll?
Yes, choose the Rolled finish. For international orders rolled is the safest way to travel; the painting can be stretched locally.
How should I care for the painting?
Keep out of direct sunlight and away from kitchen humidity. Dust with a soft dry brush every few months. Do not use cleaning sprays of any kind. The Liquitex varnish protects the surface, so dusting is all it usually needs.
