On this composition

A painting, before the light.

A view from Amber Fort near Jaipur, framed through an ornate carved arch. The gilded foliate stonework presses around the opening, built up in thick palette-knife gold and ochre. Beyond it lies Maota Lake in cool blue, with the geometric green parterres of the Kesar Kyari garden set out on the water and rust-red Aravalli hills rising behind under a peach sky. A line of caparisoned elephants with riders climbs the foreground ramp toward the fort. Sandhya Kaushik keeps the carved frame loaded and warm, the lake and garden cooler and flatter, so the eye is pulled through the arch into the distance.

The framed depth suits a square format well. It holds a living-room wall, a study, or an entry that can carry something regal and warm.
