On this composition

A painting, before the light.

Sunset from a hilltop temple at Barsana in Braj. Heavy stone arches and pillars stand in near-black silhouette across the foreground, framing a wide view of the plains; a large orange sun drops to the horizon, birds scattering against an amber and rose sky. Far off, the spires of other temples and a low village break the flat fields, and the temple's stone floor catches a band of warm gold light. Sandhya Kaushik loads the silhouetted stone in dark umber and charcoal, then opens the sky in broad palette-knife sweeps of orange, amber and pink so the sun reads as a soft burning disc.

The strong contrast and warmth make it a quietly dramatic piece. It settles a bedroom, a dining wall, or a study that can take a deep evening glow.
