CHINESE FISHING NETS, FORT KOCHI III — ORIGINAL IMPRESSIONIST CANVAS PAINTING
On this composition
A painting, before the light.
The cantilevered nets going up against the light, their timber frames reduced to dark angular strokes across a sky knifed in cadmium orange and rose. The fishermen are three or four marks each. Wet sand takes the whole sky back down the bottom of the canvas in broken horizontal pulls.
A strong silhouette piece that reads from across a room, and one of the few in the collection that works as a dramatic single hang. This is one of four paintings Sandhya made of this subject — the light, the weather and the arrangement of the elements differ in each, and no two are the same picture.
