GURUVAYUR TEMPLE ELEPHANTS — ORIGINAL IMPRESSIONIST CANVAS PAINTING
On this composition
A painting, before the light.
Caparisoned elephants lined along the temple wall at dusk, gold headplates catching the lamplight, with the rows of oil lamps running the length of the canvas in small loaded dabs of pure cadmium. Sandhya Kaushik keeps the animals as dark warm masses and spends her brightest paint entirely on the metalwork and the flames.
The most ceremonial piece in the collection. It carries a large wall and belongs where a room can take deep reds and golds.
