HAMPI BOULDERS AT SUNSET — ORIGINAL IMPRESSIONIST CANVAS PAINTING
On this composition
A painting, before the light.
The boulder landscape of Hampi at sundown. Huge rounded granite rocks in warm grey and tan heap up across the foreground, one balanced over a low shelter. Beyond, a tall terracotta gopuram of the old Vijayanagara capital rises among coconut palms, with low ochre buildings and broken stone colonnades scattered along a still stretch of river. The sky burns peach and gold, cooling to lavender overhead, with tiny figures along the far bank. Sandhya Kaushik builds the boulders in broad palette-knife planes of grey and ochre, dabs the palms and gopuram in compact warm strokes, and drags the water flat in gold and slate.
The mass of stone against the open sky gives a spacious, ancient calm. It carries a wide living-room wall, a dining wall, or a space above a long console.
