On this composition

A painting, before the light.

The evening Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri, Haridwar, where the river leaves the mountains for the plains. In the foreground, priests in saffron lift large aarti lamps whose flames swirl in spirals of gold; the landmark clock tower (Birla Tower) and a temple spire rise mid-frame, with crowds gathered along the broad ghat. Lavender-grey Himalayan foothills close the distance and the Ganga runs pale blue and silver between the embankments. Sandhya Kaushik works this in brighter, looser strokes than the Varanasi scenes, the flames thick with cadmium and gold, the water in cool bladed scrapes.

The lighter palette and lifted mood make it a warm, welcoming image. It suits an entryway, a living room, or a prayer corner that benefits from movement and light.
