On this composition

A painting, before the light.

Hemis set back in its gorge, the way it is come upon rather than seen. Whitewashed walls and deep ochre bands are knifed on as flat architectural masses against bare rock, and the prayer flags cross the upper canvas in quick loaded dabs of red, yellow and blue. A few monks appear at the courtyard edge as warm marks, no more.

Austere and strongly structured. It suits a meditation corner, a study, or any wall that can take a quiet, monumental piece.
