KANGRA FORT BELOW THE DHAULADHAR — ORIGINAL IMPRESSIONIST CANVAS PAINTING
On this composition
A painting, before the light.
Kangra Fort in Himachal Pradesh, set on a green-and-tan promontory where two rivers meet. The ochre sandstone ramparts and a small gold-spired temple hold the ridge, with crenellated walls and gateways stepping down the slope and tiny figures along the parapets. Behind, the snow-capped Dhauladhar range rises in blue-white peaks, and a pale blue river curves at the foot of the rock in the foreground. Sandhya Kaushik works the fort in warm palette-knife planes of ochre and sienna, the mountains in cool lavender-blue, and keeps a cream-peach sky between the two.
The warm fort against the cold snow peaks gives the piece a clear Himalayan light. It suits a living-room wall, a study, or a bedroom that wants mountain air.
