On this composition

A painting, before the light.

Dawn on Dal Lake in Srinagar. Three canopied shikaras rest on the pale, glassy water, their hoods striped in red, blue and yellow, a boatman poling the middle one; wooden houseboats line up at the right and snow-dusted Himalayan peaks fade lilac-grey into morning mist behind. Broad lotus leaves float across the foreground. Sandhya Kaushik blends the lake and mountains in soft, wet strokes and saves the thicker, brighter palette-knife work for the little boats and their reflections.

The cool palette and still water make it serene and restful. It suits a bedroom, a living room, or a study where a quiet, airy landscape is welcome.
