On this composition

A painting, before the light.

Kedarnath temple caught in a Himalayan blizzard. The grey stone shrine with its tiered shikhara stands centre-left, flag still flying, while the dark mass of the Bhairav rock looms behind through the white. Snow drives across the canvas in long diagonal streaks, and a few bundled dark figures struggle across the foreground past a low wooden structure. Sandhya Kaushik works almost in monochrome, loading the snow and sky in thick white, grey and slate-blue palette-knife slabs, then dragging the storm in with the knife's edge so the temple seems to hold against the weather.

It is a stark, weather-driven image with quiet grit. It suits a study, a gallery wall, or a cool room that can take a dramatic, near-monochrome painting.

The questions we are asked most

Where is this scene?

Kedarnath in Uttarakhand, a Shiva temple at about 3,580 metres in the Garhwal Himalaya and one of the four Char Dham shrines and the twelve Jyotirlingas. At its altitude the shrine is regularly battered by snow and storms.

Is this a painting or a print?

An original painting. It is hand-painted on canvas by Sandhya Kaushik after you order, at the size you choose. It is not a print or a reproduction, and it comes signed, with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Will it look exactly like the photograph?

Very close, but not identical. Every painting is made by hand, so brushwork, texture and small details differ from the photographs, and colours vary between screens. That is the nature of an original painting and is not a defect.

When will it arrive?

It is handmade after you order and delivered in 12 to 18 days, in India or abroad (abroad: plus any time in customs). See the shipping policy.

Which finish should I choose?

Stretched arrives ready to hang. Floater framed, in black or gold, adds a frame around the canvas. Rolled travels in a tube, which suits international orders, and can be stretched by a local framer.

Can I have a size that is not listed?

Often, yes. WhatsApp the studio with your wall size; the size, finish, price and timeline are confirmed with you before you pay anything.

Do you deliver outside India?

Yes, to 28 countries, rolled in a tube. The delivery charge is shown at checkout before you pay. Import duties and taxes in the destination country are payable by the recipient.

Can I cancel my order?

Yes, free of charge, within 24 hours of ordering or at any time before painting begins. Once painting has begun it is a one-of-one piece and cannot be cancelled. See the cancellation and refund policy.

What if it arrives damaged?

Write to us within 48 hours of delivery with photographs of the painting and the packaging. We arrange the return pickup at our cost and replace the painting or refund you in full, as you prefer.

Is GST included?

Yes. Every price includes GST, and a GST invoice comes with every order.
