On this composition

A painting, before the light.

Kedarnath rises warm and golden in the Garhwal Himalaya, its sandstone shikhara built in thick knife-cut slabs, a saffron flag at the kalash and a white Nandi resting at its door. Above the snow peaks the Tripund of Mahadev glows in the sky, three bands of white-gold ash light with a vermilion bindu at the centre, haloed in gold against a deep Himalayan blue. Sandhya Kaushik loads the snow in thick palette-knife slabs of white and cool grey and drags the meadow in short ochre and umber strokes lit with gold.

Devotion and scale together: the shrine is the clear focus, the Himalaya its setting, and the warm gold against cool blue and grey sits easily in a grey, yellow or neutral living room, above a long sofa or across a puja-adjacent feature wall.

Every size this painting is offered in, drawn to scale against the furniture it suits and against a six-foot person. One scale for everything shown.

Drawn to scale, one scale for every object shown. Gap and centre follow interior-design convention — 6–10″ above the furniture, the painting 66–85% of the furniture’s width. The largest sizes are statement pieces for a wall of their own. Furniture shown for scale only; not included.

The questions we are asked most

Where is this scene?

Kedarnath in the Garhwal Himalaya of Uttarakhand, where a stone temple to Shiva stands at about 3,580 metres in the Mandakini valley. It is one of the four Char Dham shrines and a revered Jyotirlinga. Here the Tripund, the three ash lines sacred to Shiva, shines in the sky above the peaks, with Nandi at the temple door.

Is this a painting or a print?

An original painting. It is hand-painted on canvas by Sandhya Kaushik after you order, at the size you choose. It is not a print or a reproduction, and it comes signed, with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Will it look exactly like the photograph?

Very close, but not identical. Every painting is made by hand, so brushwork, texture and small details differ from the photographs, and colours vary between screens. That is the nature of an original painting and is not a defect.

When will it arrive?

It is handmade after you order and delivered in 12 to 18 days, in India or abroad (abroad: plus any time in customs). See the shipping policy.

Which finish should I choose?

Stretched arrives ready to hang. Floater framed, in black or gold, adds a frame around the canvas. Rolled travels in a tube, which suits international orders, and can be stretched by a local framer.

Can I have a size that is not listed?

Often, yes. WhatsApp the studio with your wall size; the size, finish, price and timeline are confirmed with you before you pay anything.

Do you deliver outside India?

Yes, to 28 countries, rolled in a tube. The delivery charge is shown at checkout before you pay. Import duties and taxes in the destination country are payable by the recipient.

Can I cancel my order?

Yes, free of charge, within 24 hours of ordering or at any time before painting begins. Once painting has begun it is a one-of-one piece and cannot be cancelled. See the cancellation and refund policy.

What if it arrives damaged?

Write to us within 48 hours of delivery with photographs of the painting and the packaging. We arrange the return pickup at our cost and replace the painting or refund you in full, as you prefer.

Is GST included?

Yes. Every price includes GST, and a GST invoice comes with every order.
