KERALA BACKWATERS HOUSEBOAT AT SUNSET — ORIGINAL IMPRESSIONIST CANVAS PAINTING
On this composition
A painting, before the light.
A backwater channel in Kerala at golden hour. A traditional thatched-roof houseboat, a kettuvallam, drifts down the centre of the water, its woven bamboo hull warm against the green banks. Tall coconut palms lean in from both sides over dense foliage worked in green, rust and amber; a small wooden canoe lies moored to a pole at the left. The low sun sits behind the palms and floods the channel, and Sandhya Kaushik drags its reflection down the still water in long strokes of gold and copper, the palm fronds laid in quick dark dabs.
The warm light and mirror-flat water make this a restful piece. It suits a bedroom, a living room, or a dining wall where the calm of the water can settle the room.
