On this composition

A painting, before the light.

The Sun Temple at Konark, built as the colossal stone chariot of the sun god. Its tiered sandstone tower rises at the right, the famous spoked chariot wheels carved along the plinth, and a pair of rearing stone horses climbs a ramp at the left. A vivid coral and orange sunset fills the sky, a single bird crossing it, while the scrubby foreground runs gold and olive-green. Sandhya Kaushik builds the carved stone in warm palette-knife planes of sienna and brown and keeps the sky a broad, glowing wash.

The warm stone against the burning sky gives it real grandeur. It suits a living-room feature wall, a study, or a gallery wall that can hold an architectural subject.
