MATHURA HOLI STREET CELEBRATION — ORIGINAL IMPRESSIONIST CANVAS PAINTING
On this composition
A painting, before the light.
A Braj street in Mathura at the height of a Holi gathering. Ochre, pink and terracotta havelis and temple shikharas line both sides; a tractor-cart in the middle carries musicians and a wide rainbow umbrella above a dense crowd in red, blue and saffron. Flags, awnings and a hazy old-city skyline close off the far end under a peach-gold sky. Sandhya Kaushik builds the buildings in warm palette-knife planes, then scatters the crowd as hundreds of quick coloured dabs, with wet foreground ground catching broken reflections.
This is the loud, joyful face of Braj. The busy mid-tones and bursts of colour hold a large living-room wall or an entryway that can take some energy.
