On this composition

A painting, before the light.

Mumbai's seafront at the end of day, looking down the long arc of Marine Drive. The promenade and road curve away on the left, lined with terracotta and ochre buildings, while a cluster of distant towers catches the last orange light at the bend. Yellow-and-black taxis and small figures move along the road, and people sit out on the curving stone sea wall. To the right the Arabian Sea breaks in choppy palette-knife strokes of pale blue-grey and white over dark rocks. Sandhya Kaushik keeps the sky a warm wash of orange and the road in long wet brown drags.

The wide curve and the cooling sea give it movement and city air. It carries a living-room wall, a study, or an office that can take an urban view.
