On this composition

A painting, before the light.

Clipped tea bushes running over the contours in bands, which Sandhya Kaushik paints as ribbons of green laid with the edge of the knife — a dozen different greens, none of them mixed flat. A small white shrine holds the ridge line, mist sits in the folds, and tea pickers appear as coloured specks that give the hills their scale.

All green and structure, no sky drama. It brings a cool, planted feeling into a room and pairs naturally with the Alleppey piece.
