FIFTH AVENUE IN THE RAIN III — ORIGINAL IMPRESSIONIST CANVAS PAINTING
On this composition
A painting, before the light.
Wet asphalt doing what wet asphalt does — taking every red and green light and pulling it down the canvas in long vertical smears. Cabs are blocked in as yellow masses, umbrellas as dark ovals, the facades rise into mist. Sandhya Kaushik keeps almost the whole picture in slate and pewter so the few warm lights carry it.
A city piece with a cool palette, which makes it an easy hang in a modern apartment or an office. This is one of four paintings Sandhya made of this subject — the light, the weather and the arrangement of the elements differ in each, and no two are the same picture.
