CHANDNI CHOWK OLD DELHI — ORIGINAL IMPRESSIONIST CANVAS PAINTING
On this composition
A painting, before the light.
The old bazaar street of Chandni Chowk in full flow as the light turns gold. A dense crowd of figures in red, saffron and blue moves down the lane; a cycle-rickshaw stands mid-street and a woman in an orange sari walks toward the viewer. Market stalls crowd both sides under striped awnings of red, green, blue and yellow, their goods spilling onto the pavement. At the far end a red sandstone Mughal gateway closes the view beneath a glowing ochre sky. Sandhya Kaushik paints the buildings in warm palette-knife blocks and the crowd as quick confident dabs, each figure a single loaded stroke.
It is the busy, ceremonial energy of Old Delhi. The hot mid-tones and pops of colour hold a large living-room wall, an entryway, or a dining room that welcomes some life.
