On this composition

A painting, before the light.

The Amalfi cliffside town packed up its steep hill at the close of day. Houses stack in coral, cream, peach and faded pink toward the ridge; the tiled majolica dome of Santa Maria Assunta sits mid-frame among them. A heavy bush of magenta bougainvillea spills across the foreground, and the Tyrrhenian Sea below moves in palette-knife slabs of teal, cobalt and turquoise with white scrapes for surf. Sandhya Kaushik loads the houses as small confident blocks of paint and lets a warm gold sunset press flat behind the headland.

The colour is high and the sea cool beneath it, a holiday brightness held in check by the blue water. It suits a living room, a bright bedroom, or a dining wall that can carry some warmth.
