On this composition

A painting, before the light.

A close, almost portrait view of the Pushkar Camel Fair in Rajasthan. Three camels fill the frame, their tan and honey hides built in thick palette-knife strokes, bridles strung with black tassels and small bells. A herder in a white turban stands between them, a strip of bright red and blue saddle textile at the right edge. Behind, soft dunes and a distant figure dissolve into dusty pink, blue and ochre, the sky a warm peach. Sandhya Kaushik keeps the animals close and sculptural, the desert loose and atmospheric.

The earthy gold palette and the press of the animals give it real Rajasthani weight. It holds a living room, a study, or an entryway that can take a strong, characterful subject.
