On this composition

A painting, before the light.

The Pushkar Camel Fair across the desert at the close of day. Hundreds of camels and small figures dot a vast sweep of warm sand; clusters of striped fair tents in red, blue, green and yellow gather in the foreground and right, with a ferris wheel and the fort-and-temple skyline of Pushkar low on the horizon. The sky burns soft peach and orange. Sandhya Kaushik works the sand in broad ochre and gold palette-knife planes, then dabs the tents and crowds as tight pockets of colour so the plain reads as both empty and teeming.

The warm desert palette gives it energy without noise. It carries a large living-room wall, a study, or a wide space that wants a sense of distance and light.
