PUSHKAR LAKE GHATS AT SUNRISE — ORIGINAL IMPRESSIONIST CANVAS PAINTING
On this composition
A painting, before the light.
The sacred lake at Pushkar in the early light. Broad pale steps curve in from the right and drop to a flat, mirror-still sheet of amber water, where a handful of figures in white and ochre sit at the edge. Across the lake, temple spires and a red shrine catch the sun above a band of low buildings, with hazy violet hills behind. Lines of small triangular flags in red, blue, green and yellow cross the upper sky. Sandhya Kaushik lays the steps in thick palette-knife ridges of cream and stone-grey, drags the water in long horizontal amber scrapes, and dabs the far temples in compact strokes of gold and rust.
The wide calm of the water makes this a restful, devotional piece. It settles a bedroom, a meditation corner, or a long wall above a low bench where the lake can stretch out.
