RISHIKESH GANGA BRIDGE AT SUNSET — ORIGINAL IMPRESSIONIST CANVAS PAINTING
On this composition
A painting, before the light.
The Ganga at Rishikesh in the soft light of sunset. A long suspension footbridge crosses the river at centre, with the Himalayan foothills washed mauve-grey behind it and a peach-gold sky overhead. On the left a tall multi-tiered red temple rises with white banding and gilt finials; on the right, riverside shrines and awnings catch the last warmth, a few boats below. Sandhya Kaushik keeps the temples in stacked palette-knife blocks of terracotta and red, the mountains in flat lilac planes, and drags the wide river in long horizontal scrapes of silver and gold.
The balance of bridge, water and hills gives a calm, open feeling. The panoramic shape reads well over a long sofa, a bed, or a wide hallway wall.
