On this composition

A painting, before the light.

A quiet riverside temple ghat in gentle morning light. A terracotta-red beehive shikhara crowns the bank, flag flying, with cream and ochre buildings beside it and broad stone steps descending at right into pale blue water. A handful of wooden boats lie moored at the edge, and small figures in saffron, red and blue move on the steps among bursts of green foliage. Sandhya Kaushik builds the temple and houses in warm palette-knife planes of red, ochre and stone, then drags the water in cool blue and silver scrapes that hold soft reflections under a pale, washed sky.

The calm light and balanced composition make it an easy, restful square. It suits a bedroom, a meditation corner, or a living-room wall that wants quiet warmth.
