GANGAUR GHAT UDAIPUR ON LAKE PICHOLA — ORIGINAL IMPRESSIONIST CANVAS PAINTING
On this composition
A painting, before the light.
The marble ghat at Udaipur where the city meets Lake Pichola. White domed pavilions stand on a broad ivory stair that drops to the water, and a line of women in red, saffron and ochre saris walks down toward the lake. The terracotta City Palace and its market umbrellas climb the right bank; the white Jag Mandir island floats mid-water, with dusty mauve Aravalli hills laid flat behind it. Sandhya Kaushik works the marble in clean palette-knife planes of ivory and cool grey, then drags the lake in long amber and teal scrapes that hold the afternoon light.
The mood is open and unhurried, carried by the wide water and the warm figures. It suits a living-room feature wall, an entryway, or a dining wall that wants a sense of distance.
