UDAIPUR LAKE PALACE ON LAKE PICHOLA — ORIGINAL IMPRESSIONIST CANVAS PAINTING
On this composition
A painting, before the light.
Udaipur's Lake Palace seen across the water at the close of day. The long white marble palace, with its domes and rows of arched windows, sits low and luminous in the middle of Lake Pichola, ringed by a few trees. The lake spreads pale blue-green and almost still, worked in horizontal palette-knife scrapes that hold the palace's broken reflection. A sandstone ghat steps into the foreground at the right, where wooden boats are moored and small figures sit and stand. Behind, the Aravalli hills rise in soft violet-grey under a peach and gold sky. Sandhya Kaushik keeps the marble in cool cream impasto against the warm stone of the ghat.
The open water and low palace give it an airy, regal calm. It opens up a bedroom, a living room, or a wide wall above a sideboard.
