UJJAIN SHIPRA GHATS AT DAWN — ORIGINAL IMPRESSIONIST CANVAS PAINTING
On this composition
A painting, before the light.
The bathing ghats on the Shipra river at Ujjain in the early morning. A cluster of terracotta and sandstone temples sits on the left, topped by a tall corn-cob shikhara, and worn steps descend to the water where small figures stand and bathe. To the right, country boats lie covered in bright pink, cobalt and yellow tarpaulins. The far bank fades into a hazy ochre line under a lemon-cream sky. Sandhya Kaushik builds the temples in stacked palette-knife ridges of rust and sandstone, then lets the pale river run thin so the reflections read as soft glass.
The light is gentle and devotional rather than busy. It settles a study, a meditation room, or a living-room wall that wants a calm sunrise.
