VARANASI BOATS AT DAWN — ORIGINAL IMPRESSIONIST CANVAS PAINTING
On this composition
A painting, before the light.
The Varanasi riverfront at first light, panoramic and warm. A tall terracotta-red gateway and a gilt shikhara anchor the right, backed by stacked ochre and cream houses; coloured umbrellas open over the ghat steps where a row of wooden boats is drawn up. To the left the city dissolves into a pale haze above the water, a single boat far out. Sandhya Kaushik builds the architecture in warm palette-knife planes of red, ochre and sandstone, then drags the wide Ganga in long blue-gold scrapes so the dawn light skitters across the surface.
The glow and the low horizon keep it calm rather than busy. The wide shape sits well above a long sofa, a console, or a sideboard where the morning warmth can carry.
