VARANASI RIVERFRONT IN GOLDEN LIGHT — ORIGINAL IMPRESSIONIST CANVAS PAINTING
On this composition
A painting, before the light.
A broad sweep of the Banaras riverfront in late-afternoon gold. The left half is dense with stacked ochre and terracotta havelis, a red arched gateway and gilt temple shikharas, with coloured awnings and small figures on the ghat steps. The river opens across the right toward a hazy skyline pricked with flags, a scatter of rowboats moving on the calm surface. Sandhya Kaushik works the buildings in compact warm palette-knife dabs, lifts the spires in gold, and drags the Ganga in long silver-and-saffron scrapes that hold broken reflections.
The contrast of crowded shore and empty water gives the piece room to breathe. It reads best over a long sofa, a dining wall, or anywhere the full width of the riverfront can stretch out.
