On this composition

A painting, before the light.

One of the old city's tight galis, drawn in steep one-point perspective. Worn flagstones lead the eye down between ochre and sienna walls toward a pointed arched gateway that frames the river and a slip of blue sky beyond. A cow stands midway in the lane; small figures move near the gate. Coloured awnings and umbrellas overhang the rooftops in red, green and blue. Sandhya Kaushik builds the walls in broad palette-knife planes of golden ochre and burnt sienna, the deep doorways in cobalt and near-black, so the lane reads as light pulling toward water.

The perspective gives real depth to a narrow wall. It suits a hallway, an entry, or a kitchen passage where a long view opens up the space.
