VENICE GONDOLA ON A SIDE CANAL — ORIGINAL IMPRESSIONIST CANVAS PAINTING
On this composition
A painting, before the light.
A close view of a black gondola on a narrow Venice canal. The gondolier stands at the stern in a straw boater, oar in hand, the boat's lacquered black hull and a glimpse of red velvet seat filling the foreground. A pale stone footbridge arches behind, with pastel pink and cream houses, striped mooring poles and a spill of magenta bougainvillea above. Sandhya Kaushik breaks the canal water into a mosaic of palette-knife strokes in blue, gold and white, the reflections jostling under the hull.
The water and the dark boat against soft buildings give it a bright, holiday ease. It suits a living room, a hallway, or a study where a small European scene lifts the wall.
